Held May - September
This is my most popular workshop, and my longest running workshop. We have had many amazing trips and expect that to continue into 2026! During this paddle, you can expect to build a large portfolio of many diverse animals and plants.

Wildlife sightings change as the seasons go my, but some of the most consistent highlights we’ll look for are:
Loon families with chicks – These are often the highlight of the paddle for me personally, and I always do my best to get you those magical photos of parents feeding or swimming alongside their young.
Open-water loon gatherings – In late summer, groups of loons often meet in the middle of the lake, sometimes calling, diving, or even displaying territorial behavior. This is an unforgettable experience both to witness and photograph.
Islands with nesting activity – Some islands host loon nests, while others hold heron or even eagle nesting sites. These are great spots for dramatic shots of iconic Adirondack birds.
Marshy wetlands – These areas come alive with red-winged blackbirds, grackles, and shorebirds. Great blue herons often stalk the shallows, making for dynamic photo opportunities.
Quiet coves and sheltered bays – These hidden corners are often calm, making them ideal for reflection shots, and they sometimes hold beavers, muskrats, or songbirds feeding along the edges.
Forest-lined shorelines – Here we might catch belted kingfishers perched on snags, cedar waxwings swooping overhead, or even the occasional barred owl calling from deep in the woods.
These are just a few of the highlights, and of course, there’s no guarantee of what we’ll see — every paddle is a little different. But that’s part of the adventure, and the variety of Adirondack lake environments always provides amazing chances to capture wildlife and scenic Adirondack landscapes.
